What happens when a student receives a School Bus Incident Report (Bus Slip)?

The bus driver writes the slip and turns it in to the transportation secretary. The secretary documents the slip and than faxes the slip to the school principal or vice principal. The principal administers the disciplinary action, signs the slip and gives the bus slip to the student to take home. The student must have the parent or guardian sign the slip. The student can not ride the school bus again until the discipline action is served and the bus slip is returned to the bus driver signed by the parent/guardian.

What is the procedure if I don't agree with the School Bus Incident Report (Bus Slip)?

Call the Principal of your student's school. Inform him/her of your concern and ask that it be investigated. Sign the bus slip so your student will not miss any time off the bus. Signing the slip is not saying you agree, it is only saying you have seen the bus slip.

What is the purpose of the School Bus Incident Report (Bus Slip)?

The purpose is to provide the safest  possible bus ride. The bus driver is responsible for up to 4 classrooms of children while driving a large vehicle. The driver must have control of the students in order to provide a safe bus environment.

What should I do when a student has a problem with another student on the bus?

Make sure the bus driver knows of the problem. Sometimes students are afraid to tell the driver or the student assumes the driver knows. You can speak to the driver at the bus stop or call transportation at 538-2300 ext 109. Also call the school and notify them of the problem, it is very effective if the principal calls the students in and speaks with them along with intervention by the bus driver on the bus.

How would I file a compliant about a bus driver?

Call transportation 538-2300 ext 109. You will speak with Roger Love, Supervisor; Julie Howarth, Dispatcher; Deborah Martinez, Secretary. If you feel a meeting is needed we well be happy to set one up.

When your student says, "I hate the bus driver!"

Get as much information as you can from your child as to why they feel this way. Call transportation 538-2300 ext 109 to get more information. Speak with your child's bus driver.

What is a permission to ride?

The permission to ride is a form given to your student by the bus driver. The top portion of the form is to be kept by the student, the bottom portion is to be filled out by the parent or guardian, signed by the parent and student and returned to the bus driver in a timely manner.  All students riding a OUSHD bus must have a permission to ride on file with the transportation office.
