According to the research on high performing schools, parent involvement is a key element in transforming schools from good schools to great schools, especially in high school.

 

There are many opportunities for parents to get involved in their child’s school. There are School Site Councils, English Language Advisory Committees (ELAC), Parent Teacher Student Associations (PTSA), Safe Grad Night Committees, and sports booster clubs only to mention a few. All of the groups I mentioned are looking for members. School Site Council members are elected, but all of the other organizations are open to anyone as long as their child is enrolled in the school.

 

I would like to take this opportunity to ask each and every one of you that has a child in an OUHSD school to take a few minutes and contact the Principal to ask him how you can get involved in the school. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at their response.

 

Right now in the District, each school’s Safe Grad Night committee is looking for members. You can contact Oroville High School or Las Plumas High School to get their contact information.

 

Oroville Union High School District is working to transform all of our schools into high performing schools. The key to that is working together with parents and the community to make sure our schools prepare our students for life after high school.
